The next Turkey River Watershed Management Authority Board Meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 23rd at 1:30 pm at the YMCA in Postville, IA. These meetings are open to the public and anyone interested in flooding, water quality, conservation, outdoor recreation, and watershed improvement efforts are welcome to attend.
The Turkey River WMA was formed in June 2012 and is a board of directors from twenty three cities, counties, and seven soil and water conservation districts in the Turkey River Watershed. Board meeting agendas include administrative updates, updates from project partners, and discussions about strategic watershed planning. The Turkey River WMA was one of five watersheds who participated in the 2010 Iowa Watersheds Project funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Through the project, the Turkey River WMA constructed 19 farm ponds, five on-road detention structures, and five terraces in the watershed. These practices help to incraese storage in the upper part of the watershed to help reduce flooding and improve water-quality.
